SC Duma 43 maize seed from Seed Co Kenya is a premium, early-maturing hybrid white maize variety engineered specifically to maximize yields in dry, semi-arid regions and medium-altitude zones. Known as the cheetah hybrid for its exceptionally fast growth cycle, this certified seed helps farmers beat mid-season dry spells and secure dependable harvests when rainfall windows are narrow and unpredictable.
This high-performing variety thrives under low-to-medium altitude conditions (800m to 1,700m above sea level). It is highly recommended for commercial grain and green maize production across eastern, central, rift valley, and western farming communities, delivering excellent field results in Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Embu, Meru, Nakuru, Kiambu, and Kakamega counties.
Key Agronomic Features and Yield Potential
- Rapid Maturity: Reaches green maize roasting stage in 75 to 90 days; full physiological dry grain maturity is achieved within 90 to 110 days.
- High Yield Ceiling: Delivers an average yield potential of 30 to 35 bags (90kg each) per acre under proper crop nutrition and optimal field management.
- Drought Tolerance: Advanced genetic defense allows the crop to conserve moisture and complete grain filling even during extended dry intervals.
- Disease Resistance: Strong field tolerance against devastating tropical crop diseases, including Maize Streak Virus (MSV), Grey Leaf Spot (GLS), and common cob rots.
- Premium Milling Quality: Produces uniform, heavy semi-flint grains with a hard dent cap, ensuring maximum milling outturn and excellent storage stability against weevil damage.
Recommended Planting Spacing and Seed Rate
To secure optimal plant populations per acre, maintain a clean planting framework using a standard seed rate of 10 kg per acre (five 2kg packets):
- Pure Stand Spacing: Maintain 75 cm between rows and 25 cm between plants, placing one seed per hill.
- Planting Depth: Sow at a depth of 5 cm in moist soils, or up to 7 cm if dry-planting ahead of the onset of seasonal rains.
Complete Growth Nutrition and Protection Pairings
To unlock the full genetic yield ceiling of your SC Duma 43 crop, ensure your seasonal input program incorporates these essential pairings available directly in our shop:
- Basal Planting Nutrition: Apply MiCROP+ Planting Fertilizer (50kg) or Thabiti DAP Fertilizer at a rate of 50kg per acre during planting to accelerate early root anchorage.
- Weed Management: Stop broadleaf and grass weeds before they choke out your young crop by applying selective Maize Succeed 280 OD Herbicide, mixed with SKYSIL GOLD Spray Adjuvant to maximize chemical rain-fastness.
- Top-Dressing Phase: Side-dress with Thabiti CAN (50kg) when the crop reaches knee-high stage (4 to 6 leaves) to drive robust stalk extension and thick stem growth.
- Farm Safety & Equipment: Apply all crop protection chemical sprays safely with a professional Jacto XP Knapsack Sprayer while wearing a full Protective Spray Suit Kit, chemical-resistant gloves, and a safety respirator mask.
